2025.04.18 Session Notes
We just stumbled in to a political minefield. The things we do for family…

The Drake’s Roost

After nighttime shenanigans and an abrupt introduction to Deraxol, Erash’s brother, the group reconvenes for breakfast at The Drake’s Roost.
Deraxol
- Deraxol is a current council member.
- He is concerned with the behavior of the monks at the clifftop monastery of Pelor.
- At the same time, he is worried Druvis is also potentially taking things too far in the other direction.
- He feels stuck and unable to enact change himself with so many personality cults in play.
- He’s also concerned that with the upcoming Feast of the Founding in two days, things will come to a head.
- Deraxol needs leverage to keep things from exploding; he has no idea what is happening at the monastery, and has no way to get information as they’ve completely closed themselves off.
Abbot Flesh of Sin & his flock
- The Abbot, Flesh of Sin, is wholly in charge; they listen to him and him only.
- Their charge and outlook has changed since Sin introduce a New Testament and its associated teachings; a move towards evangelism, isolationism, and protectionism.
- Those who knew Sin prior assert he is a “good soul” who never seemed power hungry but his attitudes and proclivities have changed with this New Testament.
- They cite concerns about the effects of new infuences, species, and trade on the long-term health of Xarzith Kitril as their presenting issues.
- Becoming more and more vocal, fanatic, and showing more of a willingness to engage in violence to achieve their goals.
Bishop Vermosi Runek
- The monastery used to be know for charitable works and goodwill when it was under the leadership of Bishop Runek who has since retired.
- Bishop has a retirement home on East Wall and has completely recused himself from local politics.
- Bishop was a hero of the people under the occupation of Vorugal, The Frigid Doom, before the dragon was defeated by Vox Machina about 20 years ago shortly after the fall of Draconia.
- Has a violent history; was a crusader for Pelor in his youth
International relations (a.k.a. Phelan’s lecture of the week)
- Draconia was allied with the Dwendalian Empire at the time of its fall.
- The Kryn Dynasty has been making overtures and offers of infrastructure and support in helping Xarzith Kitril grow and stabilize; this is likely due to their need of a friendly warmwater sea port.
- Similarly, the Clovis Condcord has been establishing political and trade relations with Xarzith Kitril, seeing value in an easily accessible trading partner and political allyship with a nation on the other side of the Dwendalian Empire.
- Things are tense between Xarzith Kitril and the Dwendalian Empire due to the perpetuation of a refugee camp of dragonborn on the border who are not receiving necessary and promised aid from the emperor.
The Docks

- Deraxol received sending spell telling him to go deal with a disruption at the docks.
- Monks are having matins on the docks as a protest to disrupt trade and shipping; basically a sit-in.
- One monk fell in the harbor water, knocked over accidentally by a stevedore; Erash rescued him and dried him off and he was weirded out by the whole magical experience.
- Having seen firsthand the effects of the current sentiment the FGC decided to go visit the Bishop.
The Bishop’s House

- Bishop Runek lets us come in after hearing we’re friends of Deraxol.
- He is disillusioned and a genteel alcoholic.
- He fears that all the violence he perpetrated in Pelor’s name was in fact for nothing; he is having a crisis of the faith.
- He believes Sin to be a good person deep down.
- Without his faith, he is hard pressed to try to help change the political situation in the city; he’d rather stay out of it.
- Encourages us to talk to Druvis.
“He’s a good soul. I believe that.”
The Silver Fang

- The Silver Fang is owned by Druvis, who lives in apartments above the shop, though he rarely works the floor.
- Sells us two 5oo GP diamonds. Woo!
- Similar to Deraxol, Druvis doesn’t have eyes in the monastery and is therefore unable to root out the cause of their sudden change of heart or figure out how to negotiate with them.
- He deeply believes in an open future for Xarzith Kitril.
- Druvis fears the monks will do something stupid, but he’d be willing to tolerate it if it causes them to lose influence or get arrested en masse.
- While he can’t endorse us doing reconnaissance for him, he can help us find architectural plans of the monastery. He’ll send them to our hotel.
The Embered Roost

- We stop at The Embered Roost (lots of roosting here) for hydra sausages and a drink.
- We see other table of non-locals that we decide to engage.
- Hallista - Druid
- Vokon - Goliath
- Jeyvan - Bard
- Group claims they are returning home to Jigow, on the far northern coast of Xhorhas.
- They recently went to the Menagerie coast looking for beacons, but had no luck.
- They passed through Feolinn on their travels.
- Snow makes small talk and tells them about the Tabaxi Nightback Clan, though not by name.
- Snow says they’re full of shit, but doesn’t think they have evil intent.
- Jayvan is clearly a noble traveling incognito. But we are not sure why.
Home again
Back at The Drake’s Roost, we tumble into our suite to find the requested plans for the monastery waiting for us…
