C1E1-7: Original Session Notes
The original session notes from the D&D Beyond campaign page.
Chapter 7: The Cult of The Scaled Tyrant Having established a plan to replace Kumas’ guard as of 6am the following morning, our intrepid heroes spend the day casing the temple for strategic or hidden entry and exit points. Once the ebb and flow of worshipers dwindled through the evening hours, Snow and Phelan realized the altar was not all it seemed. Late that night, they successfully revealed a hidden shaft passing through the altar and deep into the dark, where a hanging statue of The Scaled Tyrant floats below them, a dark facsimile of the Platinum House above. Snow quickly darts down the shaft, silently exploring the horrors below, and followed in disjointed fashion by her friends.
The denizens of the temple don’t take kindly to visitors, and a series of fierce battles ensued. In a pocket of silence, the party finds two bound fire elementals and successfully breaks the enchantment, only to have their giddy whirls of thanks reveal a mystical mark that marches up the arm of Erash.
Chapter 6: The Platinum House The FGC make it out of bed the next morning only slighly worse for wear, and travel to The King’s Hall in the Innerstead Sprawl to see the Lawmaster of Zadash, Orentha Stonegrasp. After a brief interview, she offers them a paid assignment: to help protect Kumas, the Herald of the House of the Platinum Dragon. He has been receiving death threats, and there have been several assassination attempts. As a result, the Crownsguard had been stepping up their coverage of his temple around the clock. However, Orentha is very shorthanded due to the war in the East; and with the Demonstration Days happening this week at the Halls of Erudition, they’re not able to maintain the level of patrol he needs.
Snow finds herself in unfortunate circumstances, when her incorporeal tour of The King’s Hall district ends abruptly…
The FGC make their way to The Platinum House, meet Kumas and his guards, and begin strategizing their coverage plan, beginning with keeping Kumas in living quarters there at the temple for the duration of their watch.
Chapter 5: The City of Zadash Our band of adventurers purchases horses and makes their way to Zadash, the central city of the southern reaches of the Dwendalian Empire. Within it’s triangular gates, they meet Evad, an old friend of Ferric’s who shows them around the city. Seeking respite at the Leaky Tap on the Eastern reaches of the Outerstead Sprawl, they enjoy an evening’s entertainment while they plan their next steps and dither on how to help Phelan negate his baser impulses during the full moon, roughly two weeks away.
The next morning, they make their way to the Invulnerable Vagrant, their first stop on the itinerary. Many shops and magic items later, the crew is clean, equipped, and dressed to impress.
The party managed a reservation at a luxurious dinner hall the Tri Spires before weaving their way back to the their beds at the Leaky Tap.
Chapter 4: The Fall of the Brotherhood Illusions within the heart of the Cyrengreen hides more than one kind of werewolf. The party has a meeting with the head of The Claret Order of the Lycan and shares news of recent events in Deastok. Concerned, The Order agrees to assist our adventurers with both physical might and what information they have about The Brotherhood’s encampment.
Our party makes its way to the hidden encampment where a fierce battle ensues, in which much of the pack is slain. Investigations following the battle yield a cache of magic items and a mysterious letter signed “C” that indicates that the items are part of a business arrangement with local criminal forces. There’s also a strategic map of the area and a curious ledger with amounts and entries that don’t make logical sense.
One prominent officer of The Brotherhood, a reputed sorcerer, is unaccounted for. The Claret Order members remain at the encampment to await their return.
The party returns to The Claret Order, handing them a detailed map of the Cyrengreen and a curious amulet that has clearly lycan ties. They convince their new ally to travel with them despite his reservations and his concerns for their safety (both from him, and from his unfortunate romantic entanglements).
In Deastok, the Starosta deeply thanks them for their service and renders payment. He also offers a letter of commendation that will hold weight with any government official, should they choose to seek employment elsewhere in the Empire.
Chapter 3: Into the Cyrengreen Our small band of adventurers makes their way ever deeper towards the heart of the Cyrengreen Woods. A journey that would normally take a week takes much less thanks to Snow’s comfort level in the woods. The veil between these woods and the Feywild is clearly quite thin, and the party faces some of the less savory denizens of that wild and unpredictable place.
The last of these encounters catches the attention of a lone tinkerer and alchemist who lives in one of the “abandoned” cabins nearby. Armed with new knowledge of how to combat The Brotherhood and a new ally, the party seeks an audience with The Claret Order of the Lycan.
Chapter 2: The Starosta’s Proposal The town is on edge the morning following the festival, as nobody seems sure who to trust. As you wake to the light of dawn, there’s a messenger with a summons for you from the Starosta. He has a business proposition for you: hunt down the Brotherhood of the Moon with the same ferocity that they have been hunting his citizenry.
Chapter 1: The Harvest Close Festival Having recently met for the first time, our new friends set out for a day of joyful celebration of the coming of autumn. But events on the festive streets of Deastok take a tragic turn.
